Is the AWS Solutions Architect Associate (SAA-C03) exam hard?

AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (SAA-C03) is AWS's most popular certification. It tests whether you can design secure, resilient, performant and cost-effective architectures on AWS.
The honest difficulty rating
Moderate to hard. Harder than Cloud Practitioner or AI Practitioner, easier than the Professional level. Hands-on experience makes a big difference: many questions describe a scenario in several sentences and expect you to spot the one requirement that decides the answer.

What actually trips people up
Storage choices
S3 storage classes and lifecycle rules, EBS volume types, EFS vs. FSx. Small details — retrieval time, minimum storage duration — decide the answer.
Databases
RDS Multi-AZ vs. read replicas, Aurora, DynamoDB with DAX, ElastiCache. Know which one solves availability and which one solves read performance.
Networking
VPC endpoints, NAT gateways, Transit Gateway, security groups vs. NACLs, Route 53 routing policies.
"Most cost-effective" and "least operational overhead"
These phrases change the right answer. Train yourself to underline them.
How long to study
Six to ten weeks with some AWS experience; longer if you're new to cloud. Combine a course with hands-on labs, then finish with timed practice exams.
